Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i
Vocational Technology & Applied Math

In an effort to provide a wider variety of learning experiences that will expose students to a broad array of activities beyond traditional textbook-based lessons, KSH Middle School is integrating vocational and technical education into the curriculum by using mathematics and science classes as a conduit.  All students in grades 6 - 8 are scheduled into the VTAM Lab to take full advantage of unique learning experiences that merge practical arts and technology activities with our math and science curriculum.  The nature of hands-on learning experiences in the VTAM Lab supports our "Guiding Principles" that Kamehameha Schools will ...

... acknowledge the uniqueness of each learner.
... assist each learner in achieving core understanding and skills.
... offer enrichment opportunities to encourage each learner to develop individual talents and interests.
... strive to encourage broad participation.

Project-based learning embraces the diversity of learning styles that our students posess and exposure to these unique activities at the middle school helps them discover individual strengths that they can utilize to a greater degree in various academy settings at our high school.
