How in the world can you use a mousetrap to propel a model car? Students design and build a model car that moves on its own only with the power provided by an ordinary mousetrap. Students collect, organize, and display data related to their mousetrap racer by utilizing scatterplots, frequency tables, histograms, and box-and-whisker plots. They also learn how to select and use appropriate statistical methods to analyze data by finding, using, and interpreting various measures of center and measures of variation or spread.
